While most data quality solutions are built around an email address, a better approach is to use both email and a physical address. Each approach has challenges but only one has a verifiable change order, that is governed by federal statue, and that’s NCOA.
It’s been well documented and understood that success in AI requires a sound data quality strategy which is why we developed AI First Step. Order of operation:
Address Standarization and de-duplication
Without NCOA you may be standardizing old addresses
If you think address standardization or CASS (coding accuracy support system) is a big deal you’re right and most organizations already have something in place to perform this task. It’s also a necessary step to match against the NCOA database. Understanding the value difference between CASS and NCOA is vital. CASS is only interested in a location and can provide an accurate delivery point; CASS also has no premise of people at those locations. That’s why NCOA has greater value to organizations, which put the focus on the people in your database.
Now consider what a duplicate is or could be. It may or may not be an address, that depends on who lives there now. It may not even be a name, an individual may have an alias like Michelle, for instance, but her friends call her Shelly and uses both conditionally.
NCOA4Salesforce takes these elements into consideration to ensure you get the most out of your AI data quality initiatives. It makes zero sense to CASS an old address but people do it everyday. While we need it to match the NCOA directory you receive back a standardized address for the new location, we’ll also use fuzzy logic to determine aliases.
